Auditor General's Office in collaboration with LGA and MoFT conducting nationwide workshops on the new Financial Statement format

Auditor General’s Office has commenced a nationwide series of workshops to train budget staff of local councils. The workshops are conducted to train the budget staff to prepare financial statements according to the new format issued by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
The first training of the series began today, on 27 November 2016 in Laamu Atoll and the ceremony was inaugurated by Auditor General (AG) Mr. Hassan Ziyath. Addressing the trainers and trainees at the inauguration, AG said that the purpose of the trainings is to assist budget staff in preparing quality financial statements and that he hopes to receive comprehensive and complete financial statements from local councils for the year ended 2016. He also said that the AGO aims to complete training sessions for all the local councils in Maldives by the end of the year.
Trainings also commenced for Addu and Fuvahmulah city council staff in Addu City today. The 3-day program will enable local council staff to prepare financial statements in accordance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) cash basis. The programs are conducted in collaboration with Local Government Authority and the Ministry of Finance and Treasury. 250 council staff members from all the local councils in Maldives will be trained at the end of the staff.
